Hot Rubberized Crack Sealing | Parking Lot Crack Filling

Crack filling is the best way to protect your asphalt from the elements and extend the life of your pavement. Filling cracks with hot, rubberized tar prevents water penetration below the asphalt. If cracks are left unfilled, the moisture will eventually soften the asphalt base material and lead to pavement failure and pot holes.
While there are a few different types of asphalt cracks, shrinkage cracks are the most common. Shrinkage cracks are inevitable, but regular crack inspection and filling will protect your asphalt investment and reduce future repair costs. Early crack detection and repair is extremely cost effective.

CRACK FILLING OVERVIEW
To properly fill cracks in asphalt, the pavement and cracks must be clean and dry. The process involves removing any vegetation and blowing out the cracks with compressed air. Under certain circumstances, a hot air heat lance will be utilized with the compressed air to remove any moisture from the cracks. Once they are clean and dry, the crew will use an oil jacketed melter to heat the hot, rubberized crack filling material to approximately 400 degrees. The “hot tar” will be applied to cracks larger than 1/4″ in width (smaller cracks will not hold the band of tar). Once the material has cooled (typically 20-30 minutes), the pavement may be opened to traffic.
